How Can You Prepare for the Procedure?
To prepare you for sinus surgery, your doctor will first screen you to ensure that this procedure is right for you. Your doctor may ask you to stop taking aspirin and other medications around 7-10 days before the surgery to minimize bleeding following the procedure. If you are going to be put under general anesthesia, you will be asked not to eat or drink anything after a certain point on the day of your surgery.
Your surgery will most likely be an outpatient procedure, and you will be able to go home when it is over. You will not be able to drive yourself home, so you will need to make arrangements for a ride to take you home prior to surgery.
Is Sinus Surgery Painful?
Sinus surgery is not generally painful. If you are given local anesthesia, you will be awake during surgery and may feel pressure while it is happening, but you should not feel pain. If you are given general anesthesia, you will be unconscious during the procedure and will not feel anything. After the procedure, your doctor will give you instructions for managing discomfort or pain.
How Long Does It Take To Recover From Sinus Surgery?
Every surgery is different. In most cases, patients need to take about a week off of work, particularly if the job is physically demanding. You may not feel completely back to normal for about a month or two. However, your doctor will give you specific instructions to help you through this process.
